The Rusty Old Sign

A deserted reminder

of much happier times

stands sad and forlorn

amid a forest of pines

Small bits and pieces

slowly chipping away

as rigorous weather

augments its decay

Narrow tubes of neon

once flickered all night

dwindle into fragments

lacking power or light

A series of small cabins

served as home for a week

stand vacant and unloved

appearing tired and bleak

Once fronting a main road

now largely a detour

this mid-century icon

strives hard to endure

Fond memories linger

at the Paradise Pines

each a lasting keepsake

under the rusty old sign.
